Potomac Pedalers Touring Club Annual Ride
Hains Point,
Washington, DC.
On January 1st we took the Cannondale Tandem to Hains Point for the PPTC's
annual ride. For the true die hards out there (or more likely
this year... die colds!) this can be a 100 mile ride. This year
it was about 28º out by mid-day, and wind chills were ranging from 0º
to 10º F.
The road around Hains Point is just over 3
miles long, so 30+ loops will make a century.
We did 6 laps for a total of 19.5 miles. The first 1/2 of the
circuit was great. We flew effortlessly with a 10 to 20 mph
tailwind. As we came past The Awakening (the statue seen in the
pictures) and turned into the wind it was a different matter
altogether.
The best thing about this ride (called
"The World's Most Boring Century") is that you can leave a
Thermos with a hot drink in your car and stop by to warm up every 3
miles!
